Once again I am waiting on Howdens…
Once again I am waiting on Howdens contacting me. Kitchen is still a shambles i.e. when opening the doors they bang against the opposite wall. Manager was suppose to contact me, Thornliebank branch, still nothing. I will not be put off and will see where I stand for a product that is not up to scratch.

Delighted with our kitchen
Absolutely delighted with our new kitchen! Yanka (kitchen designer) was very efficient. She listened to our specific needs and guided us through every decision. She utilised every possible space and the result is a kitchen with maximal storage, which flows well and is a pleasure to cook in. It also looks great! Highly recommend!

Bought a kitchen from HOWDENS - be careful before you buy
Changed from one star to 2 - see at bottom. Bought a kitchen from HOWDENS, July 2023. Initially fine, went out and confirmed that the person fitting the kitchen was registered with them and would work with them. The professional person came out and measured up and discussed what I wanted and needed - fine. However, I now have the kitchen fitted - shambles. Firstly the dishwasher door would not open because of the waste pipe, this was not mentioned when measuring up. I contacted HOWDENS and was told it was my fault for wanting the dishwasher there and that she didn't want it there. I had to move the sink, the hob and dishwasher elsewhere. I am elderly and disabled and had planned the kitchen for ease of use - not so now. Now less safe for me to use. Further doors hit off the opposite wall so don't open fully - again not considered when measuring. I upgraded to more expensive drawers as they would be better than the soft close and would be just over £200 cheaper. I got the soft close drawers and when I complained I was told they were the upgraded ones? Also a panel seems to be missing. Was told it was my fitter and myself at fault for making changes to the kitchen without speaking to her and that measurement and units etc. should have been checked. Yes, but that was before the fitter knew about the waste pipe. to keep the same dimensions would have meant drilling a large waste pipe through the wall into the front garden. HOWDENS is in the top 3 for best kitchens maybe it should be in the bottom 3. It is not the kitchen I wanted due to the waste pipe not being considered or myself being told. If she had said at the time the problem could have been fixed. But not being a kitchen fitter or selling kitchens I didn't know about the waste pipe. So be warned check everything yourself before purchasing. p.s. I had e-mailed really early this morning and got a reply just after 7am which read prior to putting in this reviews. I got an other e-mail nearly 2 hours later which I had not read prior to review, they don't have the size of panel I need but offering an alternative and that the builder could pick up and cut to fit. So the replies were quick and not ignored. will see tomorrow. The kitchen is not what I wanted and that will not change. But not just ignoring me. So moving it up to a 2 star. check and double check what you are buying. Update 18th Aug have to pay £80 for a small panel.

Faulty worktop and poor communication from Thornliebank (Glasgow)
This issue has been rumbling on for 2 years at the Thornliebank depot in Glasgow. It all centred around a faulty worktop which was installed in 2020 by our joiners. On reporting a fault the worktop which was at the time discontinued was replaced and installed and replaced by another joiners. Great service although slow we understood with impact on srvices coming out of the pandemic. The same fault occurred with it raising at the edges. We reported this again but it took numerous emails and phone calls from my wife to speak to the manager. This rumbled on for months with no resolution. The joiners said it was not a fitting issue (2 different joiners installed) with same result and Howdens said the worktop is not faulty. This deadlock continued until we were finally offered the original cost of the work top back in 2020 which would not buy a new one today. We would also have to pay for the installation at an approx cost of £1200-£1500 to fix the issue of there faulty worktop. I emailed the store manager requesting contact details of the regional manager so we could dicuss this matter and try to get a resolution. The store manager never replied to my email. I then contact Howdens head office customer service who then spoke to the store manager and regional manager with no change in stance. The customer service team at head office were very supportive and actively wanted to get a positive outcome. Finally 2 weeks ago I was told the regional manger was going to speak with me and the case was closed. Its 2 weeks later and the regional manager has still not contacted me? Would I use Howdens again, no. Would I put people off using them? Well I would say you will be fine unless something goes wrong. The communication we have experienced has been between lack of respect to the customer to incompetence. Avoiding and not dealing with things has left us drained and increasingly angry.
